Turn on SMS messaging

SMS is on the Growth and Enterprise plans. Enable it in Settings, Messaging, connect a Twilio number, and set your quiet hours and opt-out footer.

Steps

  1. 1Open Settings, Messaging and switch SMS on.
  2. 2Connect Twilio: paste your Account SID, Auth Token and either a Messaging Service SID or a single phone number. See the article on connecting Twilio and Resend.
  3. 3In Twilio, point the number's inbound webhook to https://ats.apexsales.ai/api/twilio/inbound and the status callback to /api/twilio/status.
  4. 4Check the opt-out footer. The default is 'Reply STOP to opt out.' It is appended to the first text sent to each applicant.
  5. 5Set quiet hours (default 8 pm to 8 am in your workspace timezone).
  6. 6Send yourself a test from any applicant record with your own phone number.

Until Twilio is connected, SMS runs in simulated mode: messages are recorded on the applicant record and in the inbox with a Simulated status, but nothing is delivered. This is how the free trial works, and it is a safe way to test templates.

US carrier registration (A2P 10DLC)

US carriers require businesses that text from local numbers to register their brand and campaign. Twilio walks you through this in their console and it usually takes a few business days. Until registration is approved, carriers may filter or block messages. Describe the campaign as recruiting and applicant communication, with opt-in collected on your careers page.

Consent

Only text applicants who consented. The apply form on your careers page includes a consent checkbox and stores the timestamp on the applicant record. If an applicant came from a CSV import or a job board, get consent by email or in your first phone call before texting.
